and Simon takes the early lead!

Well the season is now in its second month, and while it takes a while for the weather and the fishing to hot up, there are some nice catches of trout to be had if the rivers flood. Last Saturday I was lucky enough to hit a patch of good fortune bagging 6 fish in 3 hours from the Mersey River. While river trout are a bit small compared to what is on offer at the lakes, when in good condition, these trout can be a real treat, and keep the motivation up between lakes trips.

Andrew and I opened our accounts with 3 fish each on opening day, Andrew has since had an Arthur’s Lakes trip that added 2, giving him 5 so far. My 3 from opening day, plus 6 from Saturday, puts me in the lead with 9 trout.

Looks like the competition is really hotting up.

In the coming weeks I will be posting more information about the competitors, more information about Tassie trout fishing, and the official rules and regulations for the Golden Trout Award.
