Simon Concedes defeat

Andrew 32 def. Simon 28

Well let me first congratulate Andrew on a good competition this year, which has seen him retain the trophy for a 3rd consecutive year. It has, as usual, been an interesting season with many ups and downs for both competitors. I know Andrew has been very pleased with his season which was not looking promising early on, and even after the arrival of his new daughter, saw him finish the season strongly. Personally my highlight of the year was visiting Lake Echo for the first time, and witnessing the catching of an 8lb monster, and will definitely be back next season to have a crack and landing one myself.

Unfortunately this season only had one trip for Andrew and I together (Lake Rowallen), and it was not our customary overnight expedition, and this is something to work on for coming seasons. Fishing, like most recreational activities, is best done with friends.

So now we have the usual cold, dark, months of off-season to survive before the season starts anew in the spring. A good time to check your gear and renew your enthusiasm for next season. Personally my goal next season is the same as every year, to fish a water I have never fished before. Looking at my Central Highlands map, I’m sure I can set that goal every year and never fish them all in this lifetime. But then there’s always a lake, or a river, somewhere.
